Just Another Melrose Monday

Southwestern 3103 leading a mixed freight towards Elida, NM

We went out to Melrose, New Mexico on Monday to catch some trains, but they weren’t running, shut down by the MOW boys. I have more bad luck catching trains on the Transcon than I ever could have imagined. So we got some Chimis at the Allsup’s and headed down to Elida.
Elida isn’t on the Transcon, just a little old Santa Fe line that’s been leased by the Southwestern Railroad, it doesn’t see a lot of action, but it has proved more dependable for us than the mighty Clovis Sub. And sure enough, just as we got near town, we spotted a Southwestern mixed freight rolling towards us. It didn’t yield any spectacular photography, but it was nice to see a train in motion.
