The old Rock Island Line (Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad), once ran as far west as Tucumcari. You can still see the abandoned right of way along old Route 66, from San Jon to Endee. It's a gravel road now, but still passable by car. It's about 45 minutes of slow driving, more if you want to get out and gawk.
